"It is great that Indonesia is using the event and taking up the opportunity to upgrade its infrastructure, which will be a long legacy. It is a very wise policy by the government," he said in the British Embassy complex grounds Jakarta on Tuesday.
He then pointed to a corner across the room, where there was a miniature model of the Jakarta velodrome, one of the infrastructure that was developed to accommodate the 2018 Asian Games.
"There is a model of the velodrome, which has had British commercial involvement," he remarked.
The construction of the velodrome facilities in Jakarta indeed involved a British company, ES Global, as its main contractor.
Fenn further stated that the velodrome in London, built in 2012 for the Olympics, has also become a long legacy for the nation.
"You may have seen the beautiful velodrome built in London for the 2012 Olympics. Our legacy has been to promote the velodrome technology all over the world ever since," he stated.
In the preparation to host the 2018 Asian Games, the Indonesian government has initiated the construction of a number of infrastructures, including the velodrome, equestrian park, as well as supporting transportation facilities.
Developments are also being done to existing sports facilities, including the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex in Senayan, Jakarta.
