Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Three Indonesian table tennis athletes have advanced to the big 32 round after winning 4-0 on the men`s and women`s single events in the Asian Games 2018 at the Jakarta International Expo Hall on Thursday.

Indonesian men`s single athlete Ficky Supit Santosa won over Maldives` Mohammed Shaafan Ismail, scoring 4-0 (11-8, 11-5, 11-7, and 11-6), while in the women`s single, Putri Rina Sintya won over Thai`s Southammavong Thiphakone, with a score of 4-0 (11-8, 11-2, 11-8, and 11-6), and Kharisma Nur Hawwa won over Thai`s Kongphet Nitnapha, with a score of 4-0 (11-7, 11-7, 11-4, and 11-8).

"Our table tennis athletes have been delivering their maximum effort in this 64 big round. Later, in the big 32 round, they will face tougher opponents, such as Japan, Korea, and India," Indonesia`s table tennis coach Haryono Wong noted.

Meanwhile, the opponents in the big 64 round were relatively easier to defeat, according to Wong. However, he emphasized that the teams were not taking it light during the competition earlier, particularly Ficky Supit Santoso, who had been training hard for the men`s single event.

Apart from Indonesia`s domination in the preliminary round, Bima Abdi Negara, one of its athletes, was defeated by Malaysian Muhammad Asim Qureshi due to a hip nerve injury that he developed in the mix double event on Wednesday.

Negara paired with Rina Sintya in a competition with South Korean doubles Lee Sangsu and Jeon Jihee. He sustained an injury in set II, which caused him to walk out. Thus, he lost by scoring 3-11 and 3-11.
