"I especially convey my appreciation to the security and traffic police who have worked hard (to over come traffic jams) enabling athletes to come to the venue on time," OCA President Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah Al Fahad said here Sunday night.
Al Fahad made the statement in his adress during the closing ceremony of the 18th Asian Games at the GBK Sports Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta.
The 18th Asian Games 2018 has been organized in the capital city of Jakarta and South Sumatran Provincial capital of Palembang from Aug 18 to Sept 2, 2018.
He also called as heroes the Indonesian National Defence Forces (TNI) and Polri personnel who were assigned to handle the traffic flows so that the implementation of the Asian biggest sporting events could last without significant disturbances.
Al Fahad called the National Police and the TNI as heroes who maintain security and regulate traffic flow so that the implementation of the Asian Games goes without significant disturbance.
The OCA presidednt also expressed his gratitude to the Indonesian government as the host of the 2018 Asian Games for serving the participants well and kindly.
"Indonesia, thank you very much. We love you. Thank you Jakarta, thank you Palembang. You are carrying out your duties well," Fahad said.
He also made use of the opportunity to thank all athletes, officials, reporters and volunteers from various parts of the world who have shown sportsmanship, and supported the successful implementation of the Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang.
The National Police together with the government of Jakarta have tried to regulate and arrange the traffic flows in such away that athletes and officials could arrive in the sports arena on time.
The Jakarta Police and provincial government had previously expanded the implementation of the odd-even license plate policy every day on several roads adjacent to the Asian Games venues.
The Asian Olympic Council assesses the timeliness of athletes heading into the competition arena to compete is one of the factors taken into account by the organizers of the 2018 Asian Games. *** 4 ***
