Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Kemayoran complex for athletes, known as Kemayoran Athlete Village in Jakarta, is now 100 percent ready for the upcoming Asian Para Games from Oct 6 to 13, 2018, according to Public Works and Public Housing Ministry.

Developed by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing and the state-owned residential developer Perum Perumnas, the Kemayoran Athlete Village is for the disabled athletes who will participate in the Asian Para Games.

"The Kemayoran Athlete Village is 100 percent ready, and we have prepared facilities for athletes with special needs who will compete in the upcoming Asian Para Games," Public Works and Public Housing Ministry Director General for Housing Facilities Khalawi Abdul Hamid remarked in a release on Thursday.

Hamid stated that some necessary improvements will be made at several points to prepare for the arrival of athletes with special needs from various countries, who will stay at the Kemayoran Athlete Village, comprising 15 tower buildings with 7,426 units, which can accommodate more than 20 thousand people.

According to him, a number of room units and facilities such as ramps, lifts for wheelchair access, signage and directories in public areas, railings on stairs, and guide tiles for athletes with special needs, have all been prepared.

Further, Hamid added that there was a special request from the Indonesia Asian Para Games Organizing Committee (INAPGOC) related to the procurement of special mattresses for the athletes.

However, he remarked that the existing mattress during the 2018 Asian Games event was still good and could be used by the Asian Para Games athletes.

"I think the existing mattresses, used by the Asian Games athletes, are still good enough for use by the athletes who will compete in the Asian Para Games," Hamid explained.

But he added that other improvements will also be done so that the Asian Para Games athletes could enjoy the same comfort as that the Asian Games athletes.
